About Midlands Chronicle
Midlands Chronicle was founded in 2011 by two former regional newspaper journalists who believed that the closure of local papers was leaving communities without the coverage they needed. The publication covers local government, business, planning, health and community affairs across the Midlands and surrounding counties.
We are reader-supported. We do not carry advertising from political parties, local authorities or businesses we cover. Our funding comes from subscriptions and small donations, which means our editorial decisions are made without commercial pressure.
Our reporters
Helen Cartwright is our senior correspondent, covering local government, planning and community affairs. She has been with the Chronicle since its founding and has broken several stories on planning irregularities and council spending that have led to formal investigations.
Robert Slade covers business, manufacturing and the regional economy. He spent twelve years at a regional business publication before joining the Chronicle in 2015.
Independence
The Chronicle operates under a strict editorial independence policy. No advertiser, sponsor or funder has any influence over our reporting. Our editorial policy is published in full.
